Looking forward to Autumn and re-visiting a window restoration

For us, Autumn is a time of inspiration and beauty in the forest; from the many Fungi to the changing shades of the leaves.

We can't wait to revisit one of our recent projects to get some updated photos of the window that we restored earlier in the summer. The period window is in an old Rectory situated in a conservation area, we completed a complete rebuild and restoration of the window, including recreating the profile of the casements with vintage hand planes.

Here it is before, you can't see from the pictures but both casements were rotten and held together with about 50 years of paint and not a lot else. They leaked and were drafty.

Period Window Pre-restoration

After several hours of stripping, sanding and making replacement casements, the result was a significant change:

The windows needed to have some sections replaced, these were handmade on site using locally milled scots pine to match the existing timber before finishing with Danish oil.
